Discovery Day XV

Dr. Jessica Hobson's PSY 302 service-learners have once again participated in Discovery Day, an event that gives Roseland University Prep students information about applying to college and what it's like to be a student.

Discovery Day IV

Every fall semester, Discovery Day provides younger students with their first exposure to higher education while providing college service-learners with an engaging opportunity for leadership and service.

"Today, I used critical thinking skills to advocate the the importance of continuing your education by coming to Sonoma State University," said David Suits, a freshman participating in the Freshman Year Experience (FYE) program.

"Discovery Day was a huge success and I really enjoyed the whole day...The scavenger hunt allowed me to practice the leadership skills learned throughout the University 222 course. I learned a lot about Patrick, Brandon and Pablo, their goals, hopes, and expectations in college.

"Connections were made that day between us and our students, and I know from here on out if they need someone to talk to, the mentors they met on Shadow Day will be there.

"I loved the person that took us around. Her name is Shy and she is amazing. She changed my mind and now I see SSU is another option for me for college. Shy explained so many things to us around campus and gave us the best tour I have ever had at a college.

"The most important thing I learned through participation in Discovery Day was how interested these kids are already about going to college, and how they are already planning to lead brighter lives." - Emerald Culmer-Royster, SSU student
