
Service-learning has taught me how to go outside of myself and my world and focus on much bigger and better things. Before college, I never spent any time focusing on my community. I was an athlete and an A and B student that felt as if I needed to help anyone it would be me.

In a society that has now been accustomed to trusting a screen on a daily basis, it is quite refreshing to be able to put our electronics down and partake in actual conversation.

Probably the cutest event the Center for Community Engagement hosts is Book Buddies. Sonoma State service-learning students from Dr.

Helping People. Changing Lives. 50 Years Strong. Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County addresses the needs of impoverished communities and the necessary changes needed to eliminate poverty in our county.

Book Buddies turned out as one of the most enjoyable events I attended while interning with the CCE. I particularly liked witnessing the interactions between elementary school children and SSU students.

"It's fun to learn about the college, I can see myself coming here or to a different college." said Roseland University Prep (RUP) junior Jose Gomez about Shadow Day.

During senior seminar, I learned about incorporating personal fulfillment, success, and service into an all-encompassing life project. As an intern blogger for the CCE, I have been able to learn how service applies.
