Welcome, Emily & Susan!
I'm excited to welcome Dr. Emily Acosta Lewis and Dr. Susan Campbell who are joining us as Faculty Fellows from Fall 2018-Spring 2021. Emily joins us from Communication & Media Studies in the School of Arts & Humanities and Susan joins us from Literacy Studies & Elementary Education in the School of Education. The Faculty Fellow position has two major and complementary components: 1) faculty development; 2) institutionalization of learning pedagogies for the common good. This means that Emily and Susan will be supporting the faculty in their Schools with their community engaged work. Additionally, Emily will be working on the inclusion of service-learning in the faculty Reappointment, Tenure and Promotion (RTP) policy. Susan is in the preliminary stages of forming a plan for her project.

“I’m excited to join the CCE because I have been teaching 75% of my courses as service-learning courses since I started and I want to encourage and help others to do the same,” says Emily. Susan agrees and says, “I am most looking forward to coordinating individual service-learning projects in the SOE into a larger supportive group within the school in order to learn from each other and to make visible the pedagogical practices of service-learning to other interested educators.”

Dr. Jeremy Qualls, who served as a Faculty Fellow last year, has left SSU to become Dean of the College of Science, Technology & Health at the University of Southern Maine. Congratulations, Jeremy!
