"The key to service learning is reflection." - Merith Weisman
"I really enjoyed the presentation and have some ideas for publishing some of the data we have been gathering related to community partner benefits from service-learning. I felt very energized after the presentation!" - Johnna Edmunds, Nursing, Participant of the Tips and Trends Workshop
Faculty members of Sonoma State University joined Merith Weisman, coordinator of the Center for Community Engagement, for an exciting and informative workshop entitled Tips and Trends in Service-Learning. The goal of this workshop was to help faculty incorporate service-learning into their curricula. Like the Tips and Trends workshops of the past, yet again it was a great success. Philosophy, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, and English were just a few of the many departments represented at the workshop. The main focus of the workshop was to explore service-learning pedagogy and current trends in academic learning, planning, community relationship building and reflective analysis activities. One of the best things about service learning is that it benefits the students, the faculty and our community and can be applied to just about any course. Want to know more? Merith Weisman would love to meet with you and discuss the possibilities your class holds.
