Earth Day is an amazing day to give back to the planet we call home and spread awareness on the importance of its protection. In honor of our planet, and everything it does for us, many organizations (nonprofits and government) host different events with activities you can attend to celebrate our planet. Here are just a few events!

1. Community Garden Work Day with the Community Soil Foundation 

Saturday April 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Community Soil Foundation is hosting a community garden work day at their Larkfield garden location in Santa Rosa. For any additional questions or information you can contact Arielle@communitysoil.com.

2. Earth Day OnStage Festival with the City of Santa Rosa

On Saturday, April 20, 2024 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa, there will be a free, family-friendly, zero waste festival with fun activities, live performing arts, tasty food, and inspiring exhibits that raise environmental awareness. 3. Food For Thought Plant Sale: Grow Love & Give Back

April 20th and 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., you can purchase organic and heirloom vegetable starts, herbs, and flowers on sale in honor of Earth Day and proceeds will benefit Food For Thought. You can learn more about how this event is beneficial to the planet as well as to the Food for Thought organization on their flier.

4. Earth Day at the Luther Burbank Experiment Farm in Sebastopol 

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 20th, you can enjoy a free, family friendly event with garden tours, composting talks, fruit tree education, and more. To see how you can attend or volunteer, feel free to check out details on the Luther Burbank Experiment Farm website.  

5. Earth Day Creek Cleanup with Santa Rosa Water

Join Santa Rosa Water Agency for their Earth Day Creek Cleanup along the Prince Memorial Greenway on April 20th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Meet at Olive Park.

6. Earth Day at SSU with the Students for Sustainability Club

Join our SSU Students for Sustainability on April 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day through many different activities, as well as interacting with guest organizations like Sonoma County Ag, Recology, Landpaths and more. 

7. Seawolf Dig In with SSU Facilities Management, Academic Affairs, and the President’s Sustainability Advisory Council (PSAC)

Join our campus community this Thursday, April 25th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the second annual Seawolves Dig In where you will partake in hands-on gardening projects across campus in collaboration with other members of the SSU community. To learn more and register for Seawolf Dig In, please do so in advance. 

We hope you are able to attend these Earth Day events in honor of our planet. It is important to acknowledge just how beautiful and strong the Earth is.
