Single-use plastic water bottles are one of the biggest scams that consumers have ever faced. For years we were told that the water in plastic bottles was safer and that the bottles could easily be recycled after being thrown away into blue bins, but now more than ever we are seeing the consequences of both the industry's production and marketing of misinformation. Single-use plastic water bottles fill our waterways and oceans, the toxic emissions of the plastic recycling process fills the lungs of people on the other side of the world, and the claim of safer drinking water is misused. What you can do today is say no more to this unsustainable industry and start using a reusable water bottle.

  • Never pay for bottled water again! Use one of the many refilling stations on campus.
  • It takes 4 gallons of water to bottle 1 gallon of water.
  • Your 8 glasses of water a day costs:
    • From the tap: $0.40 per year
    • In plastic bottles: $1,400 per year
  • 45% of bottled water is just tap water.
  • Cities must have their water tested for coli-form bacteria by government-certified labs more than 100 times a month VS. Bottled water plants only test for coli-form bacteria once a week and certified testing is not required.
  • Reusable Coffee Mugs: Charlie Brown's Cafe, Toast, and the SIP give discounts for bringing your own mug.

It may sounds like a simple switch, but the financial impact this one tip can make over your lifetime is huge. The real challenge is to incorporate your bottle into your daily routine. To make the transition and habit of using a reusable water bottle easier start by getting a stylish bottle that is personal to you. Say no to single-use plastic water bottles and start using a reusable water bottle today!
