You can have the most rewarding and challenging experience of your life this next year being an AmeriCorps VISTA at Sonoma State University. I can honestly say I have while being an AmeriCorps VISTA for the past 8 months.
VISTA stands for Volunteers in Service to America and started during the war on poverty in the 1960s. Think of the program as the Peace Corps, but domestic. Members do one year of service with a non-profit assisting in ending poverty in the community by supporting programming with volunteers.
The Center for Community Engagement at Sonoma State University is currently hiring four new AmeriCorps VISTAs to work with both the university and a local non-profit here in Sonoma County. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 24, 2017.
